| whoa. long time no see, xanga. we used to talk everyday. is this still alive and strong?
updates: -wedding plans are slowly but steadily going forward. finally got the dress (i was being really indecisive...and this time, i'm not going to return it) -work's going well. i love my job, i love the ppl i work with. i really enjoy it =) -vic's finally moving to boston in the next couple of months and we'll be moving to a high-rise downtown. i like my current apt and quaint neighborhood, but i definitely missed the more urban lifestyle. -i finally found sesame ice cream in the form of mochi at super88. haven't tried it yet but if it's good, it may end my several-year-long search for sesame ice cream outside of hk and toronto. -i found a massage chair at brookstone that i'm seriously thinking of buying. maybe i should put it on the registry and see if anyone is feeling super generous? =)
| HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!! Please wish him a happy bday for me! His future wife is working this weekend and won't be able to see him... | | |
| wow, my last entry was from my first day...and now it's the last day of my first rotation! the 5 weeks flew by! it really hasn't been that bad, even though i have worked 94 hours this past week, which isn't exactly compliant with the 80-hour work week regulations (it's not exactly illegal since the 80 hours/wk is averaged over 4 weeks...although it's still over 80 when averaged so i guess we are non-compliant! =P) have i learned a lot these past 5 weeks?...hmm...i'm definitely much more comfortable with placing central lines and arterial lines, and have even done them without supervision!! (of course, i got blood on my pumas and everything, but still) i'm a little more comfortable making clinical decisions and being (or at least, pretending to be) confident about my decision...hopefully that'll improve over time as i gain more wisdom and experience. in the end, i got through my first rotation, in the surgical icu, with some of the sickest pts in the hospital, and did not kill anyone or make anyone significantly sicker, so praise God for that!! =) | | |
| my first day of residency....
it's a little past 10pm, which means there's still 15 hours left to my 30 hour shift. the day seems endless...which i guess it is, when there's no sleep in sight. it hasn't been too busy, although many of the patients are extremely sick. the team's been really nice and supportive. the fellow didn't even pimp me on rounds today, which i really appreciated. i did have to answer a couple of questions during conference with the attending, but i got them right so it was all good. besides those brief moments, i've felt pretty much like a retard all day. i can barely remember any pathophysiology, any normal values for any labs, or what meds are used for what. i don't know where anything is in the hospital, i don't know how to use the computer systems, and i don't know who anyone is or who to call for what. =P
back to work....wish me luck! i hope i don't fall asleep in the middle of a phone call or during rounds tomorrow morning!
| it's official! i am finally doc mok!! =D
thank you to my friends and family for taking time off work/school/your day in general to share with me what really is my dream come true. i've worked towards this day for as long as i can remember, and it means so much that you were there to celebrate with me =) praise God for the beautiful, sunny, rainless day that allowed us to take picture after picture after picture =)
